Most marine toilets are flushed with seawater or river water which is drawn from a hull fitting below the waterline. All owners of leisure craft and smaller commercial craft are familiar with the odour problems associated with these toilets.
There are two main reasons for the odours:
Bleach, toilet cleaner, washing up liquid… nothing works in the long term and the smells soon return as it’s the water itself causing the issue, not the toilet bowl!
Some owners incur great expense by having all of the sanitation hoses on their toilets and holding tanks replaced but within a short period, the bacteria are back, along with the odour and the battle starts again.
Specially designed for leisure crafts of all types, SeaSmart has researched and developed a fantastic device for sanitising and deodorising marine toilet systems, including all associated pipework and sanitation hoses.
This great product overcomes the well-known and long-standing malodorous and foul-smelling problems associated with boat toilets.
It uses a controlled injection of a biodegradable and environmentally friendly fluid throughout the toilet system, using intelligent microprocessor control. It’s not expensive or difficult to install.
SeaSmart uses modern technology to ensure that precise and accurate doses of fluid are injected right at the start of the sanitation hose, by the seacock. This is achieved without any cutting or drilling of the hose or fittings and there are no connections below the waterline*.
SeaSmart uses microprocessor technology to adapt the quantities of fluid dispensed, to the usage of the toilet.
The attractive SeaSmart unit is usually installed next to the toilet and contains a fluid pouch, a fluid pump, a microprocessor and a battery. It is neatly connected to a flow switch mounted near the toilet. It can also be installed into the inlet sanitation hose anywhere it is accessible between the seacock and the flush pump (for example in a cupboard under a sink).
When the toilet is flushed the flow switch sends an electronic signal to the microprocessor, the fluid pump supplies a measured dose right to the start of the sanitation hose which then passes through the entire toilet plumbing system every time it is flushed.
The SeaSmart has discrete LED indicators telling you that the unit is working with each flush, and when to change the battery or the refill. Refill replacement is quick and simple.
SeaSmart has other important features. If the craft is left unused for some time and the toilet isn’t flushed, the odours can build up again. So the microprocessor goes into a “maintenance cycle” after 3 days and automatically runs the fluid pump to inject a little more into the inlet sanitation hose every 3 days, keeping the water sanitised and odour-free.
On certain occasions, a craft may be subject to long continuous usage, such as a long voyage with a full crew on board. On these occasions, a toilet could be subject to heavy usage of 50 or more flushes per day, which would exhaust the disinfectant container quite quickly.
In these circumstances, dosing does not need to be so frequent, so the microprocessor registers the high usage and halves the amount of fluid dispensed with each flush. This allows the fluid refill to last longer before replacement.
